The brand name Tecmo has been in decline for the past few years.
The company has lost more than $1 billion and was the victim of a string of high-profile suicides in 2016, including a suicide in front of the company’s headquarters in California.
Its new Tecmo-branded sports merchandise line was a big success, but its popularity has also been hurt by the launch of the Xbox One and a renewed focus on social gaming.
“Tecmo Bowl,” the company said in a statement to ESPN.
“We believe this new product line has the potential to continue the success of Tecmo and Tecmo Sports.
We look forward to continuing to grow the Tecmo brand, and we look forward also to continuing our relationship with Microsoft and its partners.”
In a press release, Microsoft called Tecmo a “family brand,” saying that the brand has been synonymous with the company since the 1930s.
The announcement was met with mixed reactions on Twitter and in the video game community.
One thing Tecmo isn’t missing is the brand’s presence in the gaming world.
Tecmo announced this month that the company would be bringing its video game console, Tecplay, to the Xbox 360 in 2017.
Microsoft’s announcement also included a big reveal: Tecmo would be partnering with Nintendo, the biggest video game publisher in the world, to bring the Xbox to the gaming console.
The partnership would see Nintendo work with Tecmo on Xbox 360 games, including “Star Fox,” “Metroid Prime,” and “Star Trek: Bridge Crew.”
“Microsoft’s commitment to Microsoft’s brand and partnership with Microsoft, including Tecmo’s commitment, aligns with Microsoft’s goals to be the best place to get Xbox gaming on Xbox,” Microsoft said.
For the past two years, Tecmocom has been working to find a way to bring Xbox One games to the Wii U. But last month, Tecmarom said that its Xbox One exclusivity deal with Microsoft had ended.
The deal was originally announced in November, but it was extended for two years.
“As the leading developer of Xbox One gaming, Tecmotoc has an ongoing relationship with both Microsoft and Microsoft’s partner Nintendo, and they have been able to develop Xbox One titles and software across platforms including the new consoles.
We thank them for their continued support and are pleased to continue to build a relationship with them,” Tecmocon said in the statement.
Tecmocom also said it was in discussions with a number of publishers and developers to develop the next-generation Xbox One console, but no new games had been announced.
While the partnership with Nintendo is a welcome one, Tecmopack is concerned that it won’t be enough to turn around the brand.
“We have always had the same goal, which is to make Tecmo games as easy to play on the new Xbox,” Tecmopak CEO Steve Shaughnessy told ESPN.
He added, “We are working on ways to make sure that we continue to grow and continue to be successful, and that is what we plan to do.”
With the Xbox coming out this year, Tecma has the opportunity to focus on its most profitable franchise, which has traditionally been a big selling point for the brand and its games.
